In the southern hemisphere at the winter solstice, the sun is at its northernmost point in the sky. This just happens to be at the end of this old rail trail. It is now used for cyclists, walkers including dogs. The beginning of this trail is only 1/2 km from our home so yesterday being the shortest day, I took a walk here. There was the sun right at the end and about to disappear!
Excellent shot to commemorate the solstice. Now, I'm fuzzy on this but I thought the summer solstice was the longest day and the winter the shortest- but then does it reverse for the southern hemisphere?
