Little Blighters! by maggiemae

Little Blighters!

Aphids attacking a new rosebud! Do they look sick? Well they should be - I've just sprayed them!

A diary photo - the date the Aphids attacked!
- the date I sprayed them!
Well spotted. I like the colours of this shot

Nice composition with a beautiful bokeh background. Good thing that you found the aphids and sprayed them in time ...Hopefully your roses will still bloom fine!

Excellent shot, focus and DOF

How could they! Hope the flower fights back successfully.

Wow, yes they are making a day of it aren't they?
October 12th, 2016
@kandkids I watched them one by one fall off, Karen! And today there are none! Well done me!

Great shot of the little blighters -- glad you spotted and zapped them !

@beryl You can break that rosebud off and dunk it in something to get rid of them but you never know where there might be more eggs. Spray everything in sight, I say!

don't mess with maggie, aphids!

Beautiful shot, awesome focus, so many little details & love that bokeh
October 12th, 2016
Fabulous details. When I had roses I aways managed to control the aphids by spraying them with diluted dish washing liquid.

@salza Yes, I had heard about this treatment, Sally! I just use special rose spray!
October 12th, 2016
Nasty little fellows. they killed lour climbing roses. Hans cut them all down and let them start from fresh. now we have long shoots as tall as 12 feet. hopefully they will fill a bit too so we have lovely roses again next summer. may I ask with what kind of a solution you sprayed yours with.
October 12th, 2016
@bruni Its a spray specifically for roses, Bruni. Kills aphids, stops blackspot and other nasties that roses get. Bought at a local shop. You have to spray every 2 weeks to keep the nasties out!
October 12th, 2016
@maggiemae Could you tell me the name of the spray as there're so many on the market and it;s always good to know which one works. Hans is the one looking after our roses and he just asked my to ask you. thank you.
October 12th, 2016
@bruni Its called "McGregors Rose and Shrub spray" Bruni but the ingredients are: 19.5g/litre triforine, and 22.5g/litre acephate in an emulsified concentrate. You use 10ml per litre of water. Cheers!

@cocobella I got the green bug type ones but I note, from my window, that there are white spots there still - could be eggs!
