We have had an unusual "winter" season this year. First we got snow just before Halloween in October! And then snow just before Thanksgiving in November. Then we got snow ON Christmas Day. We got snow again at the end of the first week or so of January, several times in a one week period, but not amounting to too much depth. Then the rest of the winter we waited and waited. THEN on March 1st, we got the biggest snow storm of the season, with 12" in my city! My parents live 15 minutes north of me, and they got perhaps 4-5" of snow. This photo was taken early into the storm and it probably snowed for another 12 hours. My camera was resting on the window sill and the snow created a nice filter, from inside the warmth of my dining room.
The tree is an absolutely lovely antique hydrangea tree (vs shrub or vine) and it is probably impossible to find this variety to purchase any more.
Great shot with the view through snow on the sill, I've never heard of hydrangea 'trees'........I'd love one of those. :) do they have 'proper' hydrangea flowers on them?
Thanks Lesley, most people haven't heard of the trees, but bushes or vines! That's what makes this tree so unique. My 75 year old father slept UNDER this tree when he was a newborn! We really don't know how old the tree is, but believe it to be about 100 years old. My great great grandfather built my house over 100 years ago. And yes, they are the 'proper' flowers, as they are the 'original' flower clusters! They are absolutely gorgeous in August - October, from white to pink to tan. Many are picked, and others blow off, while other still cling to the tree, as you can see here. There are hundreds of clusters of these flowers year after year. Unfortunately, the likelihood of you getting one of these is slim to none. Sorry. :(
great shot, awesome editing! Down here in southern new england, we missed the march 1 snow. we had nothing at all! it was indeed, a strange winter. I am hoping we don't get hit with something huge in april!!!!!
Very interesting story on the tree... I hope you take a pic of it in full bloom this summer!
