Black velvet Petunia

82 / 365
My hubs bought this plant for me because he knew id think black flowers were cool =) plus they're actually a very deep purple when the sun hits them which is my fav colour.....
I wasn't happy with how the shots came out today because they just looked like black blobs =/ I'll try again another day - but for today this is going to have to do! =)

Very dramatic flower! I find it's hard to capture detail in black, especially when shot against a light background, but you've done a good job here.

Great lighting. Awesome color. My wife just planted seeds for some sorta black flower for the same reason that she thought they would make angreat photo op. Wanna know what's interesting, there are no true blue flowers, or very very rare. Most we see are variations of purple, either lightened or made hybrid.

@losthorizon When they bloom you have to photograph them and tell me how you get on, because i had no luck? they just looked like black blobs and i couldn't bring out any details....they really are a lovely colour when the sun hits them =)

@mantha Did you use a macro for it? Another thing you might try, though this is just me guessing, is the same concept of a water crown shot. Find exactly where you want the focis to be on in the flower. Remove flower and place something normal...like a pencil or something. Focus on that. Replace the flower in the same exact spot, and snap.

I only use a point and shoot so i used the macro mode rather than a lense, but its served me pretty well in the past. I'll try again another time =)
