#37 Fisherman by mara19500

#37 Fisherman

I met Emanuele during my seaside walk and had a chat with him about the boats and the unsual habit of covering them with old quilted blankets
(my photo in second album)

He told me some of them don't have the money to buy those waterproof cover to protect the boats in winter so they make do with this alternative system.
A wonderful portrait Mara. Great to see a working man portrayed like this. Fav.

@seanoneill Oh, thank you so much, Sean. I particularly appreciate a compliment from a b&w wizard like you.

This is a great gritty, realistic image, with a story to match. I love it, and I wish I'd taken it! I might have cropped or 'shopped the pole at the side because it is interesting in it's own right and so draws my eye away from his, but maybe that's because I'm easily distracted. Either way - this is an instant fav!

@exidia Thanks, Fiona. Actually, that is part of a rough-edge frame I used to complete the portrait during processing. Do you think I should crop it out?

@mara19500 Rather than crop it I would replace it with a plain black edge, because it moves him over slightly, which gives a good, unbalanced look to the shot. (perhaps I should say asymmetric, not unbalanced! :-) )

@exidia The thing is, I can't do these alterations with picmonkey unless I have to delete this upload and reload a new version...which means losing Sean's comment ... I think I'll ljust crop. it

@mara19500 Mara, this is fantastic. The details give him such character. And if you edit within this page in pic monkey you won't lose any comments.

What a face full of character. This is lovely, Mara and black and white is just the medium to portray this fabulous man's face.

What a great portrait! Your high contrast processing and the light from the side has highlighted his features and weathered face amazingly well. The black sweater and hat (clever crop to not be forced to include it completely) places the focus fully on his face! Ottimo!

@ericdibosco Wow! Sono proprio contenta che ti piaccia. Mi rendo conto (I realize) che uso troppo il mio iPhone...devo riprendere la Canon, sto diventando pigra (lazy)....
