This is my first time trying the artist's challenge, and I was pleased to learn about the work of photographer Harry Callahan. My self-portrait was inspired by this Callahan self-portrait, and the background of some chives that pop up on their own each spring in a neglected pot on my patio was vaguely inspired by this Callahan nature image. I've been on vacation and feeling sick (just a cold) the last few days, so this was the perfect little project while sitting around the house. I am not a fan of black and white photography (heresy?), but I did desaturate my images a bit as a nod, and I compiled them in Photoshop, whereas I believe Callahan did multiple exposures in camera if I'm not mistaken. Thank you for the tag to participate in this challenge. I would have been too intimidated to jump in on my own :) . It’s such a fun challenge to have something new to learn and to experiment with. Finally, a little tidbit about my husband’s reaction when I showed him my self-portrait. After I showed him the photo that inspired it, he quipped, “Oh, I thought it was because you have no torso,” a running joke in my house, as I am the only short member of my immediate family.
Really impressed Marcy. I have not looked at much of his work but this is similar to some I have seen. Just a suggestion, can you blur the edges of the photo with your head at all, it might just work better.
Fantastic self-portrait, Marcy! I haven't done any type of multiple exposure or image compilation, only a couple of multiplicity photos, so I'll definitely have to try this out. I had to smile at your comment on not being a fan of black and white photography...I feel the same. I'm truly working on developing an appreciation for it but it's slow going. :-)
@gaylewood I'd like to try a multiplicity photo. I usually hate being in photos, though, so maybe I can recruit someone else, ha ha. There is definitely some stunning black and white photography out there. For some of it, though, I will like the shot but feel I would like it even more in color.
