Abominable Bokeh

This is my response to a Get Pushed challenge by Vera @vera365 to try custom-shaped bokeh. This was so much fun! I don’t know how this works or why the shapes came out as they did (I had cut a star shape out of a black circle of card stock that I put in front of my macro lens), but I was thrilled to see these blurred shapes form in the background.

If you’re curious about it, I put my set up on Flickr here: Custom bokeh experiment.

Thanks for your views and comments -- always much appreciated.

P.S. My son Daniel, who is frequently called upon to hold a flashlight or prop for me while I take a few -- or 30 -- photos, looked patiently at my shots for a while before getting a little tired of my glee and snapping in mock-exasperation: “Why would I want to look at blurry sh&t? I can just take my glasses off and get the same effect!” The kid makes me laugh.
Too funny. What a great fun shot.

What a great ornament. I told my husband yesterday that he was my abominable snowman as he put the Christmas tree topper on!
