Christmas Cheer

I was excited to see the new macro Christmas decoration challenge this morning -- that subject has been carrying me through December already, but each click of my shutter gets me more and more excited for the holidays, an awesome time of year already, plus a time with both my boys home together, as well as my husband’s and my winter vacation. Yay!

I can’t believe there are only two weeks left of my first year of the photo-a-day project. I had been having days of no inspiration when I was looking forward to the finish line, but now I seem to be excited again. My inspiration has waxed and waned like this throughout the year, so that’s not really a surprise.

I am not sure what my approach is going to be to year two. I love this community, and I definitely want to stay involved, but I was thinking of letting go of my “rule” to take a photo every single day, regardless of whether I could come up with something interesting or not. I’ve seen a lot of others do that in the second (plus) year of their projects, and it seems to work well. Then again, I am the type of person that might stop altogether without the daily incentive.

Thanks for your views and comments -- always much appreciated.
Just beautiful, and the ribbons make it so cheery.

This is such a beautiful Christmas photo! Congratulations on being so near finishing your first year!

My first year on 365 was a daily photo-diary -- but now that I am completing my third year, I have given myself permission to post photos taken near (but not always on!) the day, and to get as artistic as I want with them. I believe that you will have a lot of fun with your second year!

Super shot! I have 2 weeks left too, finish on 31st. Mostly next year I will post weekly not daily I think. But it has been a blast, eh?

@dsp2 Thanks for the feedback, Dinah -- I think I will relax the rules in my second year.

@casablanca It has been so much fun! I didn't know when I started just how much of my creative energy would revolve around getting certain shots. I didn't realize we started together. I bet a whole new influx of people will join with the new year.

to make it easy since you have such a wonderfully festive theme happening how do you feel about Christmas ornaments in b&w?

Wonderful ornament.
Like you I have only a couple of weeks to go to finish the first year. I have decided to have a break and concentrate on my other projects. I really have enjoyed the year and will probably will back in the future.

Absolutely gorgeous macro image, Marcy! Love the ornament, curly ribbon, and bokeh! I REALLY like curly ribbon! :-)

Yes, as you mentioned in your narrative, during this second year I have been more relaxed with the "post a photo taken on that day" policy. I still try to take the photos daily for my postings but if it doesn't happen, for whatever reason, then I'm okay with posting a photo from that week. I'm getting into my third year and I've decided that starting January 1st, for this next year, I'm going to view my 365 project as a daily photo journal, many times simply a photo of what I'm doing that particular day. I'm doing this in an effort to change my mindset a bit...right now what happens is I get busy and don't take photos that I'm TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY happy with and then I don't want to post them because I don't think they're the best I could do and then before I know it, several days have gone by and I haven't posted. I get frustrated because I love posting every day and commenting on my friends' photos every day and keeping in touch with everyone. I'm excited about this approach because I think it's more likely I'll post and comment every day if I do it that way and I truly enjoy the daily 365 experience. :-)
Sorry I've rambled on and on . . . thanks for listening (reading). :-)
