...just a little added info...
Marysville was one of the areas destroyed by Australia's worst ever bushfire Feb 7, 2009... Black Saturday. 173 people died, over 2000 homes destroyed, injured 5000 people and burnt through 4,500 square kilometres of land (1740 sq miles). The white on the centre peak is dead trees and the shadows are the regrowth around those trees. It's very eerie when you come up here...so many still-dead trees...but nature and the people are recovering...time is healing the wounds.
Beautiful landscape Maree! FAV!

@skipt07 ...thank you Skip!...it looked a lot different in 2009 just after black Saturday...so much regrowth now

Beautiful landscape!

I love this shot with its multi-layered perspective turning ever more blue into the distance and the clouds just scraping the hill (or mountain?) tops, all on a much more grand scale than we have here, especially where I live in East Anglia, noted for its flatness - although I do live on the only hill in sight! Fav.

@dizzyd @paulavdmerwe @wordpixman ...thank you all very much...it's quite eerie looking over to these mounts...the one in the far distance is still marked by the fire...all the white is actually trees that will never regrow and the shadows there is growth surrounding those trees...awesome in the true sense of the word

It's a beautiful landscape but such a sad story... Mother Nature will do her restorative stuff but the human loss and suffering will always remain.

really nice blue tones

Breathtaking! Excellent photo. Australian mountains and the Great Smoky Mountains (Appalachian) are similar in that they are the only two mountain ranges that have the smokie blue fog-like air amongst the hills, a result of volatiles released by the hardwood trees.
