I was going to give the "true" SOOC a try here, but I found my camera will not load a vertical picture vertically so my choice was to leave it SOOC or rotate it. I am choosing to rotate it. I guess I know now that I have limitations for a true SOOC and will have to "work harder" (a quote from the SOOC Week Challenge thread... as in if you don't have a fab camera that will do all the work for you you will just have to work harder to get the good shots.) to make sure I can get the photo I want in the horizontal frame if I want to do SOOC. Oh, wait... I am the person who doesn't give a crap about SOOC... so no worries!
I don't think flipping a photo negates it as SOOC. I think whatever you get out of your camera without using any type of processing program (like picnik, photoshop, etc) is considered SOOC. Whatever you take with your camera is "straight out of the camera"! My take on the whole thing.
@debsphotos Exactly... others don't see it that way, so I decided to be strict and not post it to the SOOC week challenge. It really doesn't matter to me... I am just trying to practice with my "new" camera and was working on focus and framing – my "goals" for this week... or this week and next... or however long it takes me to feel comfortable with them. :)
There is a link under Ace Tools (on the right side of your photo) that allows you to edit in Picnik... apparently without affecting the comments, etc. I didn't even realize that when I did it until you commented on it. It takes you to Picnik and then your only option is to save it back to your project.
Nice composition; rotation in multiples of 90 degrees and cropping don't negate sooc since you can do those two operations with a print. To me sooc means that you did not mess with the pixels that are being displayed
@grammyn Yup... The rotate negates sooc nerve as well as the "have to work a little harder" (those not able to afford the cameras loaded with features) nerve.... Did not like those comments even though I didn't realize at the time that either one would even apply to me with Marvin's fancy-shmancy camera. I thought it was just mean to say people without money to burn should have to work harder to even try to get a shot that was sooc. Another reason I don't give a crap about ever posting one that is sooc (except my "fun" ones, of course!)... I will strive to take some great sooc for my own satisfaction because that will mean I am learning to use my camera well, but I will not be looking for anyone else's approval and don't care if my best pics are sooc or post-processed.
@hjbenson Thank you... I was actually trying to semi-duplicate a shot i took last year on my phone to be able to compare them side-by-side. Re the sooc... that is your opinion, but not in the opinion of others on this site. Is there a really definitive definition somewhere?
@wannabe Thanks... Yes, the flag was in the first photo I took from this window last year , but is was windier and I got more flag and fewer branches in that one... or maybe I was at a different window and had a better angle. :)
@marilyn In looking on definitions that are available there is no definitive one. I have developed mine from teaching and implementing Graduate Courses in Computer Imaging and Graphics
