Today we went on a bicycle trip to Kinderdijk. On this picture you see a few of the 19 (!) mills in Kinderdijk. All of them are still working. They are on the world heritage list of UNESCO.
This is gorgeous! I wish I could stand there and see it in person. I see the flag being blown stiffly into the wind....can feel that breeze. I love the framing and composition where you get the plants in the foreground....andth POV with the mills going off into the distance...lovely!

Wow! What a beautiful landscape! I love the mills, especially seeing the repetition of them....also their reflection in the water. Simply gorgeous!!

Wonderful composition and such a beautiful view. My husband had a cycling holiday in the Netherlands by himself this spring and loved it, I'd like to see views like this myself but I'm not a cyclist!

I still love this photo and as we are going to Amsterdam on holiday soon I wondered if you thought it was possible or advisable for us to go and see this view for ourselves on a day trip? Perhaps you think it is it too far or the trip would be too complicated. We will be using public transport. Thank you for any advice you can give!

@louisefrance Yes, it is possible when you use public transport and it is not very complicated! You have to take the train from Amsterdam Centraal to Utrecht Centraal and from there you have to take the bus (90) to Rotterdam. That is a bus trip of 75 minutes, but it is a beautiful trip. When the bus leaves the highway after 15 min. you drive through little villages along the river all the way to Kinderdijk. That is a very Dutch landscape! I know that because I live in one of the villages and I use that bus every week :) You have to keep in mind that the bus only drives once per hour. I'm sure you will love it! When you go to the website www.9292ov.nl you can plan every trip by public transport. You can change the language in English so that shouldn't be a problem.
I hope you have enough information. If not just ask!

@marja Thank you very much for your advice and information about the bus! We are only in Amsterdam for four nights so we will not decide for definite whether to make the trip or not until we are there but now we know it is a possibility, thanks to you!

@louisefrance You're welcome :)

@marja We got back from Amsterdam today and yes we did follow your instructions and visited Kinderdijk on Thursday. We were very lucky with the weather, it was beautiful sunshine until mid afternoon when we had walked to almost the last windmill and it started to thunder! As it was still sunny where we were, we were happy as we got more dramatic photos! It only started to rain when we got to the windmill that is open as a museum, so our luck continued!
I'm still deciding which picture to post, I have so many to choose from! Thank you Marja, for your photo that inspired our trip and all your helpful advice!

I'm glad you liked it! The weather was beautiful. I remember because I was cycling from our village to the next and back. It's funny. It only takes me 45 minutes by bus to get to Kinderdijk and I never do that. My husband works in Kinderdijk and sees the mills almost every day :)
