COLLARED DOVE by markp

COLLARED DOVE

Correctly called the Eurasian Collared Dove ( Streptopelia decaocto) this bird was perched by the feeders checking it was safe to go down to the ground to feed.
Good detail captured within this Collared Dove.

Nice shot. Unfortunately this is the main prey for our big black cat. He kills 'em, brings 'em indoors through the cat flap and disembowels 'em horribly throughout the house (if we have forgotten to close the door between his room and the rest of the building!)

I caught one of these on a walk one day--HUGE birds. I thought it was a hawk initially (was quite a distance away at the time).

@steampowered Thanks Paul, I regularly find piles of feathers on the lawn, from these but I think the Sparrowhawk is the guilty party not cats.

@darylo Thanks Daryl, their silhouette is quite similar to a hawk, you do need to look twice sometimes to make sure what you are looking at.
