MACHAIR

Day 2.
Tuesday dawned sunny and bright at least for a while, back to Ullapool and the ferry over to the Isle of Lewis. Landed in Stornaway and had a wander around and then drove due west to the coast. Randomly took one of the many little single track roads that take you down to the Atlantic coast. Miles and miles of Machair, this a grassy sandy dunes area filled with Clover, Daisies, Buttercups, Orchids and many other flowers. The whole area is teeming with all sorts of wonderful birdlife, just a natural paradise. Dragged myself away and headed north to the Decca, my bed and breakfast for the night. Enjoyed an excellent tea and then out and headed to the Butt of Lewis. This is the most northly point of Lewis, famous for its lighthouse and from its mentions in the Shipping Forecasts. Roamed around taking photographs, trying to capture the Fulmars floating in the updrafts on the tops of the cliffs. Waited for the sun to set, it was a long wait, it finally sank behind the sea at 10.40 pm !!!!!
Drove back the mile or so to the B&B without switching on my lights, it was not dark enough, this was at 11.15.
Sounds like an amazing day. Your collage is beautiful - such wonderful colors.
