The Cairngorms are home to Britain's only free ranging herd of Reindeer. It is possible to see some at the Reindeer Centre at Glenmore, or at a very large fenced area up the mountain, but a lot of them just roam free. I have come across them several times, once a group of about 30. This is one of the free roaming ones I found whilst wandering around the slopes of Cairngorm, he was part of a small family group of about 10.
If you have seen Reindeer in your town at Christmas Festive Events there is a very good chance they are from this herd as some of them go all over Britain for a few weeks every year.
