SPARROWHAWK SERENDIPITY

SERENDIPITY - the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

A couple of weeks ago, an old rotten tree was cut down at a property near me. It was left in two piles, the branches and leaves in one, and several large trunk sections in another. I noticed that the very top bits were very rotten and I thought this would make an excellent prop on to which to try and tempt the woodpecker on to and get some nice photographs.

It took me a while but yesterday morning I found out who to ask regarding moving the tree. He said take what you want. So during torrential rain at dinnertime, I moved quite a lot of it in a wheelbarrow, one piece at a time. I put some of it down the garden, the other sections I just left in a pile, just past the bird feeders. I would give some thought as to the best places to leave it.

You can imagine my surprise then, about four hours later to walk past the window and discover this male Sparrowhawk had caught a sparrow ( I think), and was calmly perched upon this new pile of timber, busily eating away. I was able to get quite a lot of images of him having his tea.

SERENDIPITY or what ?
