MEMORIAL TO THE LIVERPOOL BLITZ by markp

MEMORIAL TO THE LIVERPOOL BLITZ

The statue commemorates the civilians of Liverpool and Bootle who lost their lives in the bombing of the city between 1940 & 1942.
Local artist, Tom Murphy draws our attention to the young mother holding the baby while trying to persuade her young son, playing with his toy aeroplane, to come back down the stairs to safety. The names of those who died are inscribed around the base.

More detail of this statue in my other post today here.....

This is interesting for me to see as my mother was a nurse and lived in Liverpool. She told me that she was woken in the middle of the night to go down to the docks where soldiers returning from war had to be helped back to the hospital. She said that they only had blankets on them as their clothes had been blown off. She said that she would never forget it.

@rosiekind It says on the information board by this statue, that the main reason for the bombing was the nearby docks.
