BEWICK'S SWAN by markp

BEWICK'S SWAN

Another Winter visiting swan, at first glance very similar to a Whooper Swan. Look closer and you might notice a more goose like, shorter neck and rounded head, it is a smaller bird and the yellow markings on the bill are generally smaller and more rounded than on the Whooper Swan.
In fact the pattern of yellow and black on the beak is different on each Bewick's swan and experts can tell individual birds apart and follow their return each year.
