Quite what the aphids are doing on the pondweed I've no idea, but it explains the presence of the Harlequin Ladybird larva.
Does pond weed have it's own species of aphid, I wonder? My gardening experience leads me to believe that just about every species of plant has its own, accompanying species of bug.
