BRIMSTONE - FEMALE by markp

BRIMSTONE - FEMALE

This is a female Brimstone butterfly, her upper wings are white, not the brilliant yellow colour of the male.
Although these are regular visitors to the garden, this is quite a rare shot, as they never seem to stop fluttering around and hardly ever land.

Do you have an Alder Buckthorn in your garden? If not, get one & keep it in a pot. Mrs B might decide it's a suitable nursey for her offspring. But protect from Harlequin larvae!
Lovely shot.

I have got a few Blackthorn's and loads of Hawthorne. I'll have a look for Alder Buckthorn, They are very regular visitors to the garden so must breed some where close.

@markp I hope you can find one, but you need to keep it confined or it will happily take over your garden. I was given one late 2016 & May 10 last year Mrs B arrived, to my great delight. I have video & stills of the whole life cycle. Wonderfully exciting.
