Maggie, nice to see you doing Black and White ...We've not seen you do much in the past.......Looking at this shot I'd say it's a genre you should explore more...the tonal range is excellent, the contrast good :)....Is there a slight cool blue tinge to the image (or is it my laptop monitor !!!)? The tinge ..whether blue or not works superbly as it adds a real atmosphere to the image
@phil_howcroft Thank you very much, Phil! However, this is not a true black and white. It was converted in Photomatix. I would prefer to shoot straight black and white vs. modify the mode but in this case, I didn't like the color. LOL! My camera also has a hard time with black and white mode, just makes a muddy mess of grays, no matter what the f-stop. Been dropped a few times. What can I say?
@marlboromaam Maggie, I do all my B/W post processing in Photoshop Elements :).....I've rarely tried B/W in camera...I don't know why I've not done 'in camera'' ....I think I read somewhere that post processed B/W's tend to come out better...but that was just a view I read and sort of followed it !
@phil_howcroft Hmmmm? Interesting. I've not read that. I do know that is why a lot of people end up with a muddy mess of grays though when converting from color to black and white because they have no true blacks and whites to begin with. Just makes for a very "flat" photo that's lost all crisp definition. You've done some nice black and white! Either you pushed them up or you had them to begin with, Phil!
@marlboromaam Maggie, thnx for the kind words regarding my B/W conversions...thers a 'convert to B/W' menu option in Photo Shop Elements which allows you to add various style and then you can mess with the Reds Greens and Blue Filters and Contrast......seems to work for me....just a few slides of the adjustment bars and I'm there
BTW : Great title for your photo (forgot to mention that) !!!
Really and truly a magnificent picture. After reading through the comments I was surprised that it was not B & W. It certainly has that feel. I really like the ground contour that curves the shadows.
Yeah I get behind too, especially during the weekends. I know how you feel. But love your awesome photographs so much it's worth the wait! Amazing shadow curves in this shot.
@buggus Thank you so much, Oleta! Life is not bad, it's the blood sucking economy and a lack of a job that really sucks! Sure hope things get better real soon! Thank you for your comments and the view!
Love this!! Very nice shot, excellent with the shadows! I agree with the economy thing - I own a professional search firm and business has been weak. One company I'm getting work because they just had to reduce their HR staff because of the economy - When business get's better & money actually starts coming in I can go ace on 365 but until then it's too much of a luxury.
@myhrhelper Thank you for your lovely comments, Kathy! I know what you mean, I have to pinch every single penny I have until it screams. I can't do an ACE membership right now either. I was laid off back in March. Worked for a non-profit - so there's no collecting unemployment. No husband's income to fall back on. Living on cash value of a little life insurance policy which is just about gone now. In the over 55-year old group of folks that employers are NOT hiring and I have worked all of my life and have always been able to find a job until now. Not too sure that I won't be homeless soon. It's a very sad and ugly time in our country right now and I don't see it getting any better anytime soon. I am sad to say that I believe it's going to get frighteningly worse.
I like the b&w w/all the lines for my eyes to follow. (even those of us under 55 are having a time...I've been unemployed for almost 2 yrs now. I keep dreaming it'll improve but I won't be holding my breath. Best of luck to ya!)
