Found these fascinating layered pocket webs the other day when my nearest neighbor called me over to shoot the sun in the mist and fog. There must've been hundreds in the young pine trees - all over the place! Could not decide on just one shot, so I did a collage of a few. Some of the webs had up to three layers of pockets. This one in the top left has two. Some really amazing and spectacular mazes with the early morning dew. Best viewed large, if you have time - if it works with a collage!
I have begun to pin my favs of your pics to my Pinterest boards again, since their TOS has removed the part about selling content which people were confusing with "selling the site." They will NOT sell original pinned content as I always surmised. I will always ask your permission first, on your original post, unless you've told me to pin away. But, please do NOT hesitate to say, NO, if you do NOT want your pic pinned to my boards. No hard feelings! The links to my boards can always be found on my profile so you can view your pics at any time to check to see if the pin links back to your original 365 project post. Again, if you want an invitation to Pinterest, let me know and I will send you one, but will need your email address to do that. It's quicker to get signed up that way. Also, if you want your pics removed from my boards, I will be happy to comply. Just let me know that, too. Thank you, all! I really enjoy seeing my favs of your pics on my boards and love watching to see how many times they're liked on Facebook and repinned to others boards. It's only a time suck if you let it be! 365 is my biggest time suck and I have got to do something a little different soon! LOL!
@papalima Thank you so much, Patti! I appreciate your time to view and comment on my pic!
@windridge Not really a lot of work, Susan. I imagine a whole lot less than your beautiful sugar flowers. Thank you for your lovely comments and visit!
@emmac Aww! Thank you so very much, Emma! Really appreciate your comments and visit!
That's a great collage! Love how the dew dapples accent the web strands. Of course if I was shooting this, I would be swatting at imaginary spiders on my body for the next couple hours.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave! The spiders web is so beautiful and as I said to hubby, it can be destroyed in an instant! Then the spider comes out and instead of getting mad after all that work and swearing, it just starts all over again!
Wow those webs are simply amazing! Like crystal necklaces. Thanks for making such great photos are them and sharing them with us. and I hope 'doing something a little different soon' doesn't mean you're gonna leave us Maggie. :(
@cjphoto Aww! Chris, you are such a sweetheart! Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments! What it most likely means is that I will stop commenting some folks' photos but, never on yours! =)
@cocobella LOL! I am NOT fond of spiders either! But their webs make for interesting subjects. Thank you for your comments, Corinne! Most appreciative!
@sgoodin1 These are hard to walk through unless you want to walk into a tree. They weave them on single young pine trees and that's all. I thought they were not the typical every day common web.
So beautiful and so intricate .. I love each and every one of them. Love the dof and the lighting on these and how each pattern is different. There is a creator watching over this world. Yes, this project does suck up time, Maggie. Don't mind when I'm not busy, but it slowly seeps into everything. One doesn't spend enough time on their own photos sometimes. Each day is a rush!
@sassykat I know! I have never seen or noticed webs made like this before! Thank you for the lovely comments!
@karenann There is a much higher intelligence at work then some people care to see. "Randomness"... my foot! Thank you for your very lovely comments, Karen. Appreciate your time and visit more than you know! I know what you mean. I really do have to think of a way to handle this a little differently. I don't mind giving my time to those who interact with me and even those I chose to follow because I liked their pics... but there are those who followed me and I followed back... I have to wonder why they bothered to follow me? This is where my time is really sucked. I may just have to stop commenting on their pics all together. I hate to do that but, what else can I do?
@cindyrez They are very thick in the pockets which was hard to shoot. I have a few more I may post later. I really have never seen anything like them before. Thank you for the lovely comment, Cindy! Always appreciated!
This is an amazing collection of webs! Fav! I just checked out your boards on Pinterest. You have a great collection of shots!!! Hope you don't mind if I follow you on there. I don't get on much because of this project but hope to start doing more soon!
Awesome Shot ..i have never herd of a web called a pocket web ...is there a reason they call them that? i will have to do some research! The captures and the collage all together is just great! Thanks for sharing these! :)..i have an pinterst account but i dont get on there at all since i started 365 i rarely even go on my facebook!! I guess i like strangers better then my friends!! lol!! j/k!!
Wow, all those lines are really amazing! Don't they get lost in their own webs!? *LOL* When I saw that one in the top left shot, I wondered if the spider was needing some exercise and so made a trampoline. 8D This is a great collage of great shots, thank you for showing us all these fabulous webs!
I love, love, love (and am obsessed by spider webs). If I am late for work my daughter's first question is 'spider webs this morning'? How clever are these creatures? Great job Maggie. FAV.
@lindag Thank you, Linda! They are certainly different and unusual! Appreciate your comments and visit very much!
@lornavale Thank you, Barb! Really appreciate your time to view and comment on my pic!
@joeboxster LOL! I don't know what they catch. Couldn't see down to the pockets where it was really thick. Thank you for the your comment and visit!

@copperheadglass Aww! Thank you, Meredith! Always appreciate your comments and visit!
@tbats22 Didn't see any of the spiders while shooting these, which I thought strange. But, you're right! Not fond of spiders myself. Appreciate your comments, Tiara! Thank you!
@wannabe Careful! Pinterest can be a time suck if you don't watch it. I just pin my favs and look at my beautiful boards with all those gorgeous photos. It's fun to see how many times they're liked on FB and get repinned. =) I will follow you back, Catherine, first chance I get to do that today. Thank you very much for the fav, your kind comments and the visit! Always appreciated!
@ellimae LOL! Ellen, I really didn't know what to call them and haven't had a chance to Google them yet. It's on my to do list! They may be called something else all together. I found some of these webs with up to 3 layers of pockets, some pretty deep! Will post another shot of a deep one later. Thank you so very much for the fav, your kind comments and the visit! Always appreciated!
@marybz Thank you for the fav, Mary! Appreciate your comments and visit, as always!
@myautofocuslife It could be a trampoline! LOL! Or, a two room flat. Ha ha! Always enjoy reading your lovely comments and appreciate your visit, Livia! Thank you!
@purdey LOL! These sure did get my attention and there everywhere that morning! Never seen or noticed anything like them before! Thank you for the fav, Sharon! Always enjoy reading your comments and appreciate your visit! Grateful, too!
Love the gossamer threads of these webs. I like how you mounted them in the four panels. What program did you use for that? Neat effect. Another beauty.
@jaboney Such wonderful comments, Mike! Thank you very much! I used to be a graphic designer, until I was laid off. So I use Adobe InDesign to create my collages and layouts. I could do it in Photoshop but, InDesign is so much easier and better for layouts like collages, plus I can add effects that I can't add in Photoshop.
@marlboromaam That would explain your creative eye and technical expertise. My son is a graphic artist, but he uses a mac and I use a PC, so I don't have access to the Adobe suite. I am floundering around trying to figure this all out in Gimp. Thanks for sharing.
@jaboney I use a Mac, too! There is a discussion some where on 365 that has a whole list of free programs and some for collages! Try a search of the discussions for "picnik" and see if it won't bring it up. I know it was in response to picnik going away.
For some reason I thought I was following you marlboromaan, but just realized I wasn't. I guess it's because we follow many of the same folks and I see your name in the comments all the time I just assumed I was! Anyway, I fixed that but quick! I really admire your work, and that's a big compliment because as others will tell you I'm not a big fan of flower shots. :-P
@cromwell Thank you! Appreciate that comment very much! Very happy to have your follow and will return the honors. LOL! I'm really not a big flower shot person and soon all the flowers around here will be gone except for maybe the occasional lily or wildflower. Hope that won't disappoint you too much! ;)
@mantha Aww! Thank you, Sam! Appreciate your kind comments and visit!
@mhphoto Thank you very much, Mike! Appreciate your kind comments! They were such an unusual find.
@paulineb Thank you very much, Pauline! Appreciate that!
@pictureitbig Thank you for that lovely comment! LOL! I appreciate you saying that and when I do, I'll comment on your original post so you'll know what's been pinned. =)
Excellent collage. I don't know but I like webs. I need to mention that I looked at your pictures because of your nickname marlboromaam; it intrigued me...

@ebdubay Thank you, Erinn! I am really not that fond of doing collages but, sometimes it's the only way to go. Appreciate your kind comments and the visit, as always!
@juleswoome Thank you, Julie! I use Adobe InDesign to make my collages. However, if you'll search the discussions for "picnik" there a whole list of free editing apps including several for collages. It was a discussion for alternative apps since picnik was going away. Hope that helps. I didn't book mark the discussion. Wish I had now because a few other people have asked me, too!
*shudder* It's lovely, truly, but ICK!! As the person who is ALWAYS the one that runs into these at night when walking I have deeply rooted biases, lol
@buggus LOL! I do know what you mean. You wouldn't walk into these though, unless you walked into a little tree. =) Appreciate your comments and visit, as always, gal!
