Ivy art or destruction... by marlboromaam

Ivy art or destruction...

Depending on your point of view. For those of you who thought yesterday's shot looked like roots or ramen noodles. In the upper shot, you can see how the ivy vine tendrils are still hanging on to the screen and the wood of the lattice work on the screen house. In the lower shot, you can see how I still have a whole lot of work to do when I get the last of the roots dug up and tearing down the vines from the roof. Getting them out of the lattice work and screen is meticulous and painstaking!
But you will get there, Its al about the end goal. Keep up the hard work and If I drop back a little on commenting, it is because I've switched the laptop off, I feel I'm wasting far to much time on the internet and am going to hit some books instead.

A beautiful mess! (Or a backache)
April 22nd, 2012
You will get there! You put me to shame, your a proper busy beaver!
Lovely shot, I like the framing :O)
April 22nd, 2012
I am not much of a gardener. Mine is rather boring. Way to go!
April 22nd, 2012
What a work !
My garden is so small, I don't have a lot to do....you seem to spend a lot on yours.
April 22nd, 2012
Great shot
April 22nd, 2012
That's very interesting. I hope it's just regular ivy...sometimes that hairy stuff is the poison variety! :-) Good luck with your project!
April 22nd, 2012
Oh we had some and even after cutting a 6 inch section out the new roots/tendrils re grew to the main plant. Quite scary and lots of hard work good luck mrs
April 22nd, 2012
Wow, that looks like a huge task. Interesting to compare the two shots and you captured the details and textures so well.
April 22nd, 2012
@justeddie Thank you, Eddie! I'll get it finished, eventually! Yes, studies are more important than this! Do what you must!

@binny LOL! It's the latter, Binny! Thank you for your comments and visit!

@lizzy_lu123 Thank you, Lisa! It's either clean it up or tear everything down with the screen house. Appreciate your kind comments!

@yonnie Thank you, Yvonne! Just doing what I have to do.

@cocobella It's that time of year, Corinne! Still so much to clean up and clear out, there's no time for fun stuff like plant seeds and new plants. Appreciate your comments! Thank you!

@kerristephens Thank you, Kerri!

@lindag It's not poison ivy, Linda. Although I do have some poison oak I have to get rid of, too! LOL! Thank you for your comments and visit!

@sleepdozer57 I have dug up all the roots but three, Peter, and I will get those this coming week. Thank you for your comments and visit! I hope it won't come back!

@cimes1 Thank you, Carole! Appreciate your comments and visit! I'd welcome some help! LOL!
April 22nd, 2012
I like the framing ! It makes it quite dramatic!
April 22nd, 2012
Cool shot. Interesting shots.
April 22nd, 2012
@maggiemae Thank you, Maggiemae! Appreciate your comments! Do they still look like roots or ramen noodles?
April 22nd, 2012
That looks like too much work. Have you considered TNT?
April 22nd, 2012
@netkonnexion They're not for the art of photography. That's for sure! I had to show some folks that yesterday's shot was NOT noodles or roots. Thank you for your comments and visit!
April 22nd, 2012
@cromwell Yes! If I could just afford to rebuild the screen house afterward! LOL! Thank you so much, Cromwell! Always appreciate your visit very much!
April 22nd, 2012
eva
What a huge difference between the shot y'day and today. Thanks for showing us. These are very nicely framed. Can see that there is still a bit of work to do, but you will get their in the end. Then you can enjoy it (until next year..).
April 22nd, 2012
Well ... I always look at something like this as beauty. But, then I'm not the one working my tail off to keep up with it. I might even go so far as to tear down everything ...unless you're using that screen house alot. Which I imagine you are, Maggie. Beautiful photo and great way to capture what "overgrowth" looks like.
April 22nd, 2012
@redrucksack LOL! I hope I'm digging up all the roots so I don't have to do this anymore, Eva! Thank you for your comments and visit! Always appreciated!

@karenann LOL! You would not have seen these shots, if it weren't for the "roots" and "noodles" comments on yesterday's shot. I felt like I had to show them what the tendrils looked like on the vines and how they grew. I will not include these shots in my slide show when I'm done. LOL! Thank you for the kind comments, Karen! Always appreciated and always grateful to have them and your visit!
April 22nd, 2012
You must feel relief getting this job doneā€¦ Ivy loves taking over everything in it's path.
April 22nd, 2012
I love the framing, makes the texture & earthy tones really stand out. Wonderfully done
April 22nd, 2012
Lovely shot.
April 22nd, 2012
@sugarmuser LOL! It's far from done, Sharon! But I know I will when it's done. I think it does love to take over. Peter was the one that told me it was destructive to brick work, too. That's when I decided to take it all down. Appreciate your comments! Thank you!
April 22nd, 2012
@wenbow Thank you, Wendy! Really appreciate your comments!

@beckys Thank you so much, Becky!
April 22nd, 2012
Esh
Awesome point!
April 22nd, 2012
Would you consider a systemic herbicide on the ivy? It was the only thing that worked on ours.
April 23rd, 2012
Cool how you framed this! Looks like you are looking out your window and now that I read comments I see you are looking out at loads of work! Maybe you could eat some Ramon noodles before starting this daunting task! Ha!
April 23rd, 2012
@esha Thank you, Esh!

@janturnbull I would consider it, if it would not kill my roses and shrubs around the screen house, too. What do you have in mind, Janet?

@wannabe LOL! I don't think I'll ever look at those noodles the same way again without thinking of ivy tendrils and lose my appetite. Thank you, Catherine!
April 23rd, 2012
We had some ivy in our backyard that we took our a few years ago. It was a lot of work, so I know what you must be going through. I like how you framed this. Very nice.
April 23rd, 2012

@grannysue LOL! It is work, Linda! Thank you for your comments and visit!

@cindyrez It's amazing how big the vines can get if you ignore them a few years! LOL! Thank you for your comments, Cindy! Most appreciated!
April 23rd, 2012
I like the different textures - I think the photograph on the bottom is my favorite - I like that splash of green and what it adds to the photo.
April 23rd, 2012
@loragill LOL! Lora, I thought these shots were terrible and only posted them so folks could see what yesterday's shot was without macro. I'm surprised that you and some others like them! Thank you! Really appreciate your comments and visit. =)
April 23rd, 2012
What a huge difference between todays shot and yesterdays, Maggie. You have done a lot of work. It is hard to show what you are doing or size of what you are doing in photos unless you show it like this. What did you use to frame your photos? I found a few instances now that really can use framing like this, especially this birds nest. I cannot get to it easily and not in the shape you are in. Take care of you while you do this. Hugs!
April 23rd, 2012
I'm so glad you showed these shots after yesterday's. So many tendrils!! It is amazing how strong ivy is. It looks like so much work!
April 23rd, 2012
@darsphotos LOL! It's a lot of work, no doubt. I just used InDesign to create my collage. It's part of my Adobe Creative Suite, Darlene. Thank you for your kind comments and visit! Most appreciated! Hugs!

@ebdubay LOL! It's pretty dang strong! Maybe it's making me a little stronger though. Appreciate your comments, Erinn! Thank you!
April 23rd, 2012
It looks like a lot of work but you will be rewarded after when you sit back and see the beauty of your hard work-Good job :)
April 23rd, 2012
@horselover Thank you, Jennifer! Appreciate your kind comments and visit!
April 23rd, 2012
hard work! you are very busy in the garden :)
April 23rd, 2012
I get tired just looking at these photos Maggie - you are putting in so much work. It will be rewarding in the end, though.
April 23rd, 2012
That looks like a lot of work waiting for you! It'll be worth your trouble though, when everything gets done and looks great. Awesome textures and details in your shots!
April 23rd, 2012
I definitely do not envy you! Better have somebody else do it for you or else let it be, haha. II may be getting old or too lazy for hard work. Very cool shot.
April 23rd, 2012
I also like the frame. Cool shot
April 23rd, 2012
You'll get there in the end, you work hard! =) just think how good it'll feel when it's all done and you can sit on your porch drink in hand admiring your handywork =)
April 23rd, 2012
I love the paterns and textures!
April 23rd, 2012
Oh that's a lot of hard work Maggie! But when its done you will feel great just by looking at the beautiful and clean backyard :D
April 23rd, 2012
Ivy tends to destroy the things it climbs over. It is tough work
April 23rd, 2012
Gosh it really gets in there! You are doing and amazing job and I can't wait to see it all finished, looking fantastic :)
April 23rd, 2012
Neat shots and textures. Nature is sometimes real artistic in creating patterns.
April 23rd, 2012
@hettie Thank you, Hettie! Yes, it's that time of year.

Great textures, good look with the gardening : )
April 23rd, 2012
Love the textures of the wood and the vines. Does look like a lot, a lot of work. Am sure your gardens will be the better for it!
April 23rd, 2012
@simon0128 Thank you, Simon! Really appreciate your visit!

@swguevin Thank you, Sheila! It's so funny... I didn't post these pics for comments about the shots. I really thought they were pretty terrible. I only posted them because of all the comments on yesterday's pic about it looking like ramen noodles or roots. So, I had to show those what the textures were made from. Appreciate your comments and visit, more than you know! Thank you!
April 23rd, 2012
Looks like a lot of sore muscles. Love the shapes is makes.
April 23rd, 2012
@copperheadglass Yeah, you're right! I seem to stay pretty sore these days. Thank you for your comments and visit, Meredith! Most appreciated!
April 23rd, 2012
Thanks for posting a farther photo beacause I wasn't sure how this plant acutallly looked. How they difficult to uproot?
April 24th, 2012
@cjphoto Hmmm? Took me about 3 hours to dig up a root as big around as my arm. I was not going to let it whip me!
April 24th, 2012
the joys of ivy...
April 24th, 2012
@earthbeone LOL! Yep!
April 24th, 2012
Very cool collage. I like that I now have perspective on yesterday's shot.
April 24th, 2012
@dishaparekh176 Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments, Disha! Most appreciated!
April 24th, 2012
Pam
That looks like a lot of work! I can't believe how thick it is. Love the framing Maggie. I wish you luck getting them out of there:)
April 24th, 2012
@pammerritt Thank you, Pam! It is a lot of work. May just tear down the lattice work and the screen. Don't know yet.
April 24th, 2012
yes, this shot really makes me appreciate all your hard work! I love ivy, but it has to be kept in its place and that is a hard thing to do!
April 25th, 2012
@vickisfotos Yep! So I'm digging it all up. Now gotta get it off the roof and work on the screen and lattice work which might take me all year! LOL! Thank you, Vicki! Always appreciate your visit!
April 25th, 2012
Looks like a plant that my hubby would detest, he would be poisoning it if it was here.
April 27th, 2012
@lornavale I would've poisoned it, too, if I knew I wouldn't have killed the plants around it. I dug up all the roots. Glad that's done!
April 27th, 2012
Very cool shot! C'mon ma'am hard work will always repay!
April 29th, 2012
@simonesta You would think! We'll see if the ivy comes back. Thank you, Simonetta!
April 29th, 2012
@marlboromaam A reply to your question of ages ago! I used Roundup on our ivy, and it worked very well. Made by Monsanto and contains glyphosate. It gets down to the roots and it's best if you don't break it up too much so you don't get a lot of separate roots.
May 12th, 2012
@janturnbull Thank you so much, Janet! I'll see what I can do with it!
