HAPPY 2018!!!!!

Resolutions. Champagne. Fireworks. Football. All night parties. New Years is a time for traditions. In Southern California, the most beloved tradition is the annual Tournament of Roses Parade, featuring marching bands, equestrian troupes, celebrities and dozens of large and intricate parade floats which rules require to be covered entirely, meaning every square millimeter, in floral and plant material. At the head of over two hours of mobile attractions one will find this antique automobile, which I caught already decorated during a tour of the floats being prepared by hundreds upon hundreds of civic minded volunteers. I would suggest anyone living anywhere, who loves parades, flowers or just plain spectacle, to watch the parade on TV or the internet. I understand that Amazon Prime will be showing it. Or check YouTube to catch current or past parades.

And I would like to thank all of you who so regularly visit my project to so generously share your thoughts and comments, and whom I consider to be my very dear friends. I thank you for your friendship during the past year and look forward to following your photographic and life's exploits during the coming year. I wish you all the happiest and healthiest of New Years.
Very nice

Turning my tv on now! How lucky to be close enough to really see this beauty. The hours and hours of work that go into that parade are mind boggling. Happy New Year!

Missed watching the parade this year. Just discovered you in the "who to follow" section of the site - loved what you said in your bio. The bit about loved ones covering their faces when your camera comes out! I can relate, so will follow. I too, love flowers and look forward to the spring, when I may find some under all this snow...

This is so great. I love the whole Rose Bowl series of events. Of course this year I was pulling for Baker Mayfield to win and was disappointed when that didn’t happen. One thing for sure, there are never any losers in the parade! Happy New Year to you and your family as well!

@elkereturns You'll find this delightful man a joy to follow! Ken and I are fortunate ones to have met-up with him for a photo shoot where there ended up being more conversation-hours over a Mexican-food lunch than shooting time...and that wasn't a problem! Glad you found him!

And Marshal, this is an awesome photo! Many years we've been up- to watch the parade, rose exceptionally early a couple of years to drive up and watch the parade, and our daughters even went and helped decorate, so we hold this marvelous parade dear to our Southern-California hearts! Your photo is a perfect way to start the new year!!!

@bkbinthecity @koalagardens @purdey @jerome @caterina @littleconnie @pistache @merrelyn @milaniet @777margo @dsp2 @elkereturns @louannwarren @Weezilou @jeanniec57 @yaorenliu @pusspup @terryliv Thank you all my 365er friends, for bearing with me while I was sick and also recovering from my back issues. I am happy to report that I am now able to start trying to dig myself out from all of the acknowledgements that I owe you. Starting here. Glad to see that so many of you share my affection for the Rose Parade and all of those insanely dedicated volunteers. And thanks too for your appreciation for this photo. It was neat to get a backstage look at everything and my first thoughts were to share it with all of you. And lastly, but never least, thank you all for your many Happy New Year wishes. They meant a lot to me then and now. Looking forward to keeping up with all of your photos and happenings in the New Year. I am now, as of this writing less than two months away from completing my first year. And I couldn't have, or perhaps more accurately, wouldn't have wanted to have done it without all of your friendship, encouragement and camaraderie.

@milaniet You really must come out and see it some time. You could even volunteer for a while. There are many folks our age doing it. I saw one lady who was working particularly diligently and I complimented her on her focus and dedication. She told me she had to be that way, since her granddaughter was the float designer. I said, "So I see... You're not working so intently out of joy. But out of fear." And we both had a laugh.

@elkereturns So glad you have started to follow me, as I have also begun following you. Though I shoot with Nikons, I see that we both share a love of our macro lenses. But photo investment I ever made.

@Weezilou Louise, You are way too kind in your comments regarding me. But I just want to remind you I enjoyed that day and meeting you and Ken much more than you ever could have. Hope that your eye surgery went well and that you are recovering comfortably. Give my best to Ken.

@mbrutus Message delivered...and I'm reading this *without* my glasses! While not "perfectly perfect", I'd be a fool to complain...I'm delighted! Thanks SO much! And let's gather again soon!
