Today, I had the good luck to stumble upon the famous Edvard Munch The Scream Tree located at Orcutt Ranch Horticultural Center in the Great West San Fernando Valley. It is said that if you get close enough to the front of the tree, close your eyes, listen very closely and imbibe six to eight margaritas (gin and tonics will do in a pinch), that you can hear the voice of my late departed mother-in-law trying to shout out, "Don't do it! Don't marry the bastard." But personally, I think that's just some sort of old urban legend. But if you ever find yourself in the Great West San Fernando Valley, do stop by and judge for yourself.
Omg... made me laugh! Love it!

I love the story .... but don't really believe it! However the scene is definitely reminiscent of the "Scream". Very creative!

How in the world is that tree still standing? Loved your story, but I must say I try real hard not to be “that” kind of mother in law!

LOL, I was convinced my mother in law would shout approximately the same words, only in German... but then I discovered I was undeservedly popular in South Tyrol as "The-One-To-Marry-And-It's-My-Daughter-Who-Got-Him" because of her inexplicable (and never plainly disclosed to me) admiration... So who knows, maybe the scream could be much different than the legend say...

@louannwarren Old oak trees get a lot of big cavities in them This one just happens to look like something. And I have a pretty good idea that you definitely aren't one of THAT KIND of mother-in-law.

That is a lovely story. Glad to hear that you are held in such high regard by your mother-in-law. From what I can tell, it must be well deserved.

@koalagardens Well, aren't you kind to say so. But it is because of people like you who I missed so much that I am glad to be back. Of course, I never meant to be gone so long. It was rather a day-by-day thing. Glad I could give you a laugh. Thanks for letting me know.

@huvesaker It really is kind of scary. I'm not sure I would show it to children of a certain age.
