Fire Station at Night by mcsiegle

Fire Station at Night

Amanda Powell @froggie0628 gave me the get pushed challenge of night photography. Here is the fire station a block and a half away from my house. I went out tonight (11/6) and took some pictures in that immediate vicinity. Pumping up the saturation and contrast has given the pavement an unnatural coloration, but I like it that way.
@froggie0628 Amanda, for the challenge you gave me.

Hahaha I have a wonderful mental picture of you stalking around the fire station with your camera! But this is a great shot.

Nice to see such a facility quietly at rest rather than in frantic activity.

@sioux It's right on the main street, and well lit, so not quite stalking. But I'm sure I looked a bit odd -- photographing the fire station and trying (with no success) to get some decent light trails off passing cars. I really need to bring out the tripod (which would have looked even odder) and have a camera where I can control shutter speed more directly. So that was a bust. But I loved how this turned out.

@kittikat @froggie0628 @seattlite @allred3 Thank you for the comments. Amanda, thanks for the challenge. This shot and the result after processing really pleased me -- reminding me of Edward Hopper in a way.

I like this photo quite well. I was thinking of doing something similar. Thanks for talking about the color of the pavement, I was wondering about that when I looked at the photo.

@highbridge Thanks, Lisa. I'd love to see what you come out with when you do what you're thinking of.
