Gift of the Magi by mcsiegle

Gift of the Magi

"Dell," said he, "let's put our Christmas presents away and keep 'em a while. They're too nice to use just at present. I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops on."

For last week's get pushed from Nancy @nanderson to "shoot a picture or story that depicts a book that you love." Well, I'm posting this late and it doesn't illustrate a book, but a short story -- "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry. I really wanted to find a watch fob, as that is the gift that parallels the combs, but just didn't have the time to track one down. So I settled for the watch that we already had just to be able to finish.
This is beautifully done. FAV (and one of my favourite stories too)

@fugitivemoments @jan20 @deborahortiz @nanderson @anazad511 @pauliek @kittikat Thank you all for your lovely comments. I was so focused on the fact that I had wanted a watch fob and had to settle for the watch, that I was seeing this as just a compromise. I'm so happy there are others such as you who love that story and see my photo as a lovely illustration of it. I also got quite a thrill this morning when I awoke and found that for the first time ever a picture of mine had been on the popular page for however long. It's there again this afternoon, as I write this. Still not sure how that works, and truly it's not the prime motivation to stay here with this great 365 community, but what a great Christmas present! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, and many blessings wherever you are.
