Konza Prairie Panorama

JoMo @jsmjomo gave me this get pushed challenge" "I'm in the UK and no idea what Kansas is like so for your challenge I'd like you to do a landscape shot please showing off some local countryside or somewhere scenic."

I live in the area of Kansas called the Flint Hills.

Today (Sunday 4/3) I went out to the Konza Prairie Biological Research Station and walked a part of one of the trails up to the highest point hoping to be able to show you the wonderful, rolling shape of the land. It may sound crazy, but I especially love the looks of the hills because they are NOT obscured by a covering of trees. Out on the Flint Hills prairie land, trees are gathered in the creek beds, leaving the sensual curves of the land visible. None of the shots I'm posting do justice to the view afforded by that spot. Naive of me to think that a panorama would be adequate. Before it was "tamed" by non-native settlers, this was tallgrass prairie as far as the eye could see. Some of the grasses were taller than a man. I can only imagine the effect that sight had on those pioneers from back east, or from various parts of Europe. There are only a relatively few protected pockets of native tallgrass prairie left in various states in the midwest.
@jsmjomo Here is a panorama I took atthe top of the hill. Still learning that feature on my camera. The stiff wind up there made it hard to hold the camera steady as I panned.

Beautiful panorama, possibly my favorite of the three posts.

Great shot, I love the person in pink as a contrast to the yellow. Beautiful.
