"Two and a Half Minute Man" or "Total Eclipse of the Sun"

Today the moon had a love tryst with his brilliant lady. For two minutes and 23 seconds, we observed him lying completely over her. When their time together was finished, he rolled over and lit a cigarette... :-)

OK enough of that!

We were so lucky today! Jack and Kim, our friends from Wisconsin, arrived yesterday afternoon; we had a wonderful evening with them, got up early, had Belgian Waffles that Frank made, and headed north to Wymore, Nebraska and the Great Plains Welsh Heritage Center to see the total eclipse. The weather predictions were pretty iffy for cloud cover and/or rain. As we were approaching Wymore we drove through some pretty heavy rain and my heart sank -- thinking that Jack and Kim may have been better off if they had followed their original impulse to go down to Carbondale, Illinois. But the rain let up to just a sprinkle as we got out of the car and went into the center. An hour or so later, as it approached time for the eclipse to begin, it was not raining at all and the cloud cover was much lighter with intermittent areas of more-or-less clear sky. We clearly saw the eclipse through our protective solar glasses and when it hit totality and we took off the glasses, I also took a few photos with my camera. I couldn't take any shots of the partial phases as my camera is not equipped with the right filter etc. I'm really pleased with the way this one turned out as I hadn't planned to take any pictures of the sky at all (took lots of shots of people).

The whole experience was AWESOME! The Welsh Heritage Center piped some really lovely harp music outside to their green space where we sat with others watching and eating the sandwiches we had packed before we left home. As I said, we were so lucky. After totality, as the sun reappeared, the cloud cover became thicker and after a bit, we really couldn't see much of anything through the glasses. SO glad it was clear as it headed toward totality.

I'll post some of the other pictures I took -- people shots -- tomorrow. Now I'd best get to bed as I have to go back to work tomorrow.
It's a great shot, glad that you this !!!!

Wonderful, wonderful shot, Mary. Were you in Oregon? P.S. Thanks for asking after me: I'm OK, just a lot of things happening and busy with clay, etc. Missed you!

@aikimomm so glad things are well with you, Phoebe. We were in Wymore, Nebraska. A short distance from the border with Kansas. Just about an hour and a half drive from Manhattan (Kansas, of course!)

@bill_fe SW Wisconsin in the Kickapoo River area. Their address is Viola, but their rural home is actually closer to LaFarge. Viroqua is not too far. It's beautiful countryside around there. When I first met them they were living outside Madison.
