The cruelty of a desktop computer

This is the temporary office space we have for our department main office. It’s a classroom that the Grad School was holding seminars and workshops in and most recently using s a study space. They are generously letting us use the room this semester since our second floor office is still not accessible. I hadn’t seen this computer screen since we packed up everything in March and moved it out of the office and into temporary storage. When I hooked it up the other day and turned it on I was greeted with this desktop image. Oh, how cruel a computer can be! I had been using this picture of the Giant’s Causeway on the coast of Northern Ireland in anticipation of the trip Frank and I were planning for April to spend three weeks in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland; we were going see the Giant’s Causeway in person. Dang!

We were hoping we could reschedule for next spring, but the way the COVID situation is going, I have the feeling it’ll be 2022. If we tried to go right now, I’d need to ask for 5 weeks off, in order to get 3 weeks of actual travel in Ireland — 14 days of self isolation when we arrived.

Should I keep this same desktop image in place for the next couple of years?
