Get Pushed 481

The challenge given to me by Sue @suez1e was rim lighting -- something I've never tried before, so it was a good challenge. I'm afraid this is the best I could do, after a good chunk of the evening tonight. I started out with some shots that are nice, but not really rim lighting. Then I finally figured out that I needed to get the subject farther from the wall (duh!) My lighting equipment used leaves something to be desired -- two flashlights, both of which occasionally threatened to fade out and have to be joggled back into life. Eventually they settled down. And my iPhone, which also was subject to going to sleep if left too long. I DID get out the hated tripod for the camera. The flashlights went wherever I could stick them on either side. One was wedged among the books on the shelf. The other on a windowsill. I opened the window, even though it's chilly, so I could angle the flashlight more.

There will be no additional rim lighting photos for this challenge. This is the sum total of rim lighting I will post. It's all I've got.
@suez1e Thanks for the challenge. It was good to try that. I don't think I'll be duplicating it any time soon. I hope this satisfies. It's all you're getting. [insert laughing icon here] :-)

I give you credit for giving it a go. I may well have abandoned it.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this photo you got some magnificent rim lighting and some fascinating color along with it. I like the subject and this one is a FAV

this really pops on black Mary and I agree with Katy that you have accomplished the perfect rim lighting effect- you can see it's a jug, you get the sharp handle and the hint of the body. Brilliant explanation of how you accomplished it too - really take my hat off to you so give you a fav for such a great outcome. Did I say I like this - a lot?!

You learned something and taught me that I need some better lights. I think that this should satisfy the challenge as you accomplished rim lighting in two different colors. (I like the blue tones on the inner handle, btw)

@mcsiegle Well done and I think you have done really well. It is a challenge that I struggled with but then we learn something from every new scenario we try. If I accidentally give it to you again please remind me you said it was a one off!
