Netcher Road Bridge by skipt07

Netcher Road Bridge

This covered bridge spans water in Jefferson Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio. The bridge, one of the newest and one of currently 16 drivable covered bridges in the county, is a single span constructed of timber arches with inverted Haupt walls, in a "Neo-Victorian" design. The water was high so I couldn't get to a place to capture the bridge and water. We visited 5 covered bridges and this one was by far the best.
A superb pov. And this is in my state?! Love the red, love the design...such a fan of covered bridges, too. A fav!

I've never seen a covered bridge in real life. I don't think we have them here! I like your low POV!

@amandal - Thank you for you very kind comments Amanda! This was the most ornate of the ones we visited. It is in your state. There 6 bridges in Jefferson Twp. and 16 just in Ashtabula County alone.

@danette - Thank you for the "Ooh" and the "Aah!" I haven't seen or heard those since I use to shoot fireworks!

@kwind - You are very kind Kim! Thank you!

@kerristephens - Thank you for you "awesome" comment Kerri!

@dmdfday - Your comments are much appreciated Diane! Thank you!

I got to see a few in New England on my summer road trip. Saw an amazing pov, but didn't get it...settled for a straight on.

It is so lovely and well preserved. Love the pov and colors in this shot. I imagine Ohio has lots of covered bridges? Really great capture Skip. fav!

This is a pretty neat pov - and love the red bridge. When I think covered bridges, I think New England (guess because that's where I'd seen them). Didn't know Ohio was home to some. Love the red pop of color.

@amandal - I wasn't sure what the best perspective was to capture this artistically. It was narrowed down because the sun was hitting this side, but if I stayed at road level there was a road sign that would appear right in the middle of the bridge. I took a few shot from that angle anyway should I choose to remove the sign in PhotoShop. The problem is that the inside of the bridge is visible at road level and to remove the sign with Haupt wall it would be hard to make it look natural. I could have shot it from the other side of the road, but there were some drawbacks to doing that,

@eyesmile - It surprisingly is. The other bridges are okay, but not of this quality.

@milaniet - The other bridges were not as fancy. Two were painted an off white or light gray and two were unpainted. I looked up to see how many bridges Ohio has and one site says 125.

What is it about covered bridges that catches our attention? Perhaps its their link to a more nostalgic time. This is a wonderful picture of this impeccable bridge.

@soboy5 - You are so right. It is rare to find one in this condition. I love the gingerbread!

@flyrobin - Thank you Robyn!

@gilbertwood - Thank you so much Denise for your kind comments and the fav!

@lyndemc - Thank you Denise for your gracious comment and compliment! It could well be that. A friend of mine told me that I need to watch a Clint Eastwood movie called , "Bridges of Madison County". I looked it up and see it is about a photojournalist (Clint) who travels through Madison County, Iowa photographing covered bridges.

@pyrrhula - You must be taken with covered bridges as I am with windmills. Thank you for the fav and the "Wow"!

@skipt07 I have both read the book and seen the movie, though I must say, I should watch it again now that I'm into the photography scene far more than I was at the time of the reading. I've been near the area but have not seen any of the featured bridges of the story. Perhaps I should change that.

@lyndemc - If you live in close proximity to Madison County by all means. I looked sometime ago to see if Vudu had the movie for streaming but it wasn't available. When I Googled it I see that Amazon has it available for streaming and it shows Vudu having it. I wonder if Vudu has more videos available online than streaming through your TV? Since it is a romantic novel/movie I don't know if there is much about the photography side of it?

@mittens - It is a very rare covered bridge. Thank you for your kind words!

@denisedaly - Thank you so much Denise! I have seen a few covered bridges and none have compared to this one.

@quietpurplehaze - Oh it is. There was another built using the same construction, inverted Haupt walls, but the outside shell wasn't as ornate or colorful as this one.
