If you find Elements 12 a bit limiting as you progress, I'd recommend downloading a trial of Adobe Lightroom 5. You still don't get the full Photoshop toolkit, but it is very powerful.
That is a cracker of a shot nice detail and ight, could you have left a little bit more room on the left to give the impression of the bird to have some space to fly in to as it looks like it is just about to take off?
Great focus. Really well taken. Agree on the composition suggestions above. I also find things I appear not to like and the only way I find myself improving is to deliberately take photos of them or use that kind of processing!

Thanks! Yes, I could have not cropped as closely, I just apparently don't like negative space much. lol
