I was blown away, to see that "After The Rain" was in the TT, (my first ever). Thank you all so much for your support :))))
We arrived home around 5pm, after a 650km drive from Kalgoorlie. We stopped for coffee in Southern Cross and were pleased to see that the town seems to have a new lease of life. I loved the wrought iron lacework on this lovely old hotel and thought that the information on the hotel's website could be of interest.
Southern Cross is a thriving small country town supporting wheat farming and mining industries.
In 1888, soon after the discovery of gold in Southern Cross, a group of prominent businessmen, including Alex Forrest brother of then Premier Sir John Forrest, erected a fairly primitive hotel, the Club Hotel in Southern Cross, WA. In 1889 it was replaced with a more permanent structure and was the departure point for Cobb & Co coaches. With the discovery of gold at neighbouring Bullfinch, Southern Cross became very busy and the Club Hotel was rebuilt in 1910 to her present day, two-storey structure. The Club Hotel was restored in the late 1990's with attention to the original design, returning this grand old lady to it's former proud structure.
Congratulations on making TT, your shot was wonderful and deserved it. Well done, may be the first of many!
It does look a lovely old hotel, similar to many of this era, thanks for sharing the history of this old girl.
We drove through Southern Cross last year, and even took a photo of this lovely old hotel - thanks for giving us the history of it...always so interesting. Nice to see Merrelyn
