We were on our way from watching the sunset and noticed the moon rising between the clouds. I played with a few settings (without really knowing what I was doing) and this was the best I came up with.
I think that the moon is probably too bright, but I liked the other colours and the reflected moonlight.
This is a first attempt at a moon shot, so I'd love some advice.
I like this shot. At least your moon looks round many people just get a bright glaring object that is nothing but blown out highlights. You captured the shape and color. That's good enough in my book. If you want to see the craters, you have to expose the picture as if you were shooting a sunlit object on bright sunny day. Something like ISO 125, F 5.6 at 1/125th of a second. So you set your camera on manual and start there then change the exposure until you get what you want. But you wont get the foreground that we see here which is what makes this shot so interesting. To get both the craters and the foreground you would probably have to blend two photo's in photoshop.
Its a super shot Merrelyn Fav. I love the yellow moon, mine moon photos turn out B&W lol...
