The Wild Geese Memorial_DSC0986

I was hoping to tackle my onion weed problem today, but it has been, windy, overcast and drizzly for most of the day, no good for gardening, but great for a walk by the beach.
The Wild Geese Memorial, commemorates the escape, aboard the Catalpa, by six Irish Fenians, on Easter Monday, 1876. They were Robert Cranston, Thomas Darragh, Michael Harrington, Thomas Hassett, Martin Hogan, and James Wilson. Their escape was assisted by John Boyle O’Reilly, who had escaped to America in 1869. The memorial was named after the handwritten newspaper that O’Reilly penned, on the convict ship that transported him to Western Australia.
I like the photo and the sculpture. It is nice to learn a little Australian history as well.
