The Breakaways, Coober Pedy

Day 11, Coober Pedy
Coober Pedy is very desolate. Many area look more like a lunar landscape than a Earth. The townsite is covers quite a large area, but most of the homes are underground. This afternoon we did a tour of the town, opal fields and breakaway country. We also visited an old mine, an underground church and a new dugout home that is under construction. It is no wonder that the miners chose to live in their mines. They are at a constant temperature of around 22 degrees, negating the need for cooling or heating.
looks very dry, but I enjoy the stark landscape.
