We packed up after breakfast and drove across to Hyden. After a wander around Wave Rock and Hippo's Yawn, we were back on the road. Rather than the main roads, we took the dirt road from Hyden to Norseman. The drive took us through some beautiful countryside, with a combination of rugged breakaway country, dry salt lakes and woodland. From Norseman it was back on the blacktop to the small town of Salmon Gums, where we spent the night.
I want to tell you how beautiful this is, but when I read that you went through a town called, "Hippo's Yawn" I was dumb struck and couldn't think of more to say!!! How awesome!
@Weezilou Sorry Louise, I should have explained a bit better, Hippo's Yawn and Wave Rock are actually a rock formations, near Hyden. They attract over 100,000 vistors each year. Hippo's Yawn is a huge granite boulder. Weathering has formed a cave in the middle of it and it looks like a hippo with it's mouth open.
@merrelyn OK...THAT makes a bit more sense, I suppose, but I thought a little town in Australia with that name would have been so delightful! Thanks, Merrelyn!
