The Painful Truth

Last week, my good friend Ron and I were having breakfast together and started talking about how people don't seem to talk as loud as they used to. Which, of course, means we sometimes don't hear them correctly. (It couldn't be because our hearing is getting worse …… could it?)
Anyway, a few days later we met to celebrate our birthdays like we've done for the last 19 years since they're just a day apart. This is the card he got me. :-)

On a side note, my Dad is almost 91 with terrible hearing, even with his hearing aids turned on, which most of the time they're not. Just a few years ago, I sat and watched for about 5 minutes as he and one of his old friends (similar hearing problems) carried on two separate conversations! They were both talking about completely different subjects, but it just didn't matter … they couldn't hear what the other guy was saying anyway. LOL

Happy Birthday. Several years ago I lost hearing in one ear overnight due to a viral sort of thing. At the time it was a huge hole in my life as it changes a lot of things. Tom and I went to the Cincinnati Speech and Hearing Center and took a course on making life easier. We still follow some of the simple "rules" that we learned there. Don't talk from the other room and expect me to hear you. For that matter don't talk on my left side. But, years later, we often laugh over what was actually said and what I thought I heard.

@summitnsmile @gark @marlboromaam Thank you all for the visit, the comments, and the good wishes. :-)
@ronphotos365 Liar - no you don't. :-)
@jgpittenger Huh? Thank you Jane - sure appreciate it.
@cdonohoue I bet that was more difficult to adjust to such a sudden change. Most of us develop the "problem" over a long period of time and it just sort of sneaks up on you. :-)

LOL, I am living that with my Mom right now, sometimes I wonder who she is answering, cause it sure isn't the question that I asked her. :-)
