I've shot the Manhattan skyline many times from across the East River in Queens and Brooklyn. However here, for my first time, I shot it from the west across the Hudson River in New Jersey.

@aspada - Hey Amy's back! Oh thx so much. I had some shots a bit sharper on the skyline but the water wasnt has nice so this was the best one overall. So great to hear from you :-D
You do know how super cool this is, right? Every so often I just know a shot is great even as I take it, and I hope you felt the same thing when you took this one. On the other hand, most days I don't know the great shot until I upload and that is a fun discovery. Simply awesome contrast between the old and the new. At first I thought those pilings looked like gravestones.
Totally Amazing!! FAV!!!!..I love the foreground so much it really truly adds so much to the perspective of the city!! Surrounded by a body of water and not all just cement!! Love, Love ,Love this one...can it get any better??? I guess we will see!! LOL!! ..by the way i lived about 15 min from the Hudson River growing up and i have seen this scean so many times driving home over the GW Bridge.. but never have i seen it photographed so beautifully!! Great Job!
@lauriehiggins - yes I too thought the pylings looked a bit like gravestones and thought that was so cool. Looking thru the lens I did knew this was special and tried to capture all the elements. What I love the most, which I could only see later, though was the shadows cast by the pylings.
@stepheesue - thx Steph so much. Hope u had a good flight home. I ventured into NJ after work to explore the shoreline with NYC for other view as opposed to where we were in Brooklyn.
@stepheesue - I had my car with my at work yesterday. So afterwards I went thru the Lincoln Tunnel into NJ and kept my eye on ESB and found my way to waterfront. Took like 20 mins door to door. I was obsessed with getting this shot. Haha.
The colours and lights of the buildings are gorgeous, of course. But the addition of the posts into the shot is fantastic. The light across them is almost magical. and the subtle lines they create, pointing to the city. Publish this.
omg totally thought those were gravestones...I just finished a booked today called the submission about a 911 memorial...and wow this just hit me hard...i totally thought of that book and 911...wow. amazing a fav for me...i swear i could fav all your shots...you are genius
Michael - This absolutely took my breath away! I saw the cityscape - but then I saw all the pilings in the river. I don't know what it is about pilings, but I think they just give me a sense of home - of living near the water. I love this - such a fav!
@sparkleplenty1 - Thx so much Joyce. Yes as soon as I saw those pilings or what ever they are (remnants from an old pier) I knew I had to use them. And within an hour they were gone under water!
@robinwarner - thats wild! I too thought they looked bizarrely like tombstones. I just had to use them in my shot and within an hour they were gone under the water. Thx so much Robin really appreciated :)
@paulaag - Thx Paula they are piling remnants from an old pier. But yes with the long exposure smooting the water in a ghostly way they do look like tombstones. Thx very much!
Catching up so seeing this photo today. first, FAVE (because they're free), second, what the hell are you working as a lawyer for! and third and most important, you went to NJ to take a photo of Manhattan?!!! That's commitment for you. : )
@ptowncook --- Laura, first, Thanks so much for the FAV! second, I know I hear ya but it pays the bills too well, and third, yes can you believe it ... I work at 50th and B'way so it only took like 15 minutes to go thru Lincoln Tunnel to the waterfront in Hoboken. I've shot Manhattan so many times from Brooklyn and Queens and always wanted to try it from NJ. Thx Laura as always I appreciate your comments and Favs!
@ellimae - Ellen I thought I had replied to you but see its not here. I wanted to thank you for your lovely and kind comment - much appreciated. Also you make great point in that many people not from NYC just think of cement and steel "concrete jungle", but Manhattan is an island and all the boroughs are surrounded by water and I like to take lots of pics showing that side. Thx so much again :-)
Thank you all so much :-)
