Today my wife and I visited the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan, which is home to the most renowned collection of impressionist, post impressionist, early modern and contemporary art. The structure itself, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is considered one of the 20th centuries most important architectural landmarks. Here I'm standing on the ground floor looking straight up at the iconic skylight as the exhibit pathways filled with works of art spiral around me. (Please View Large)
@scooter@espyetta@melissapike@summerfield - Thank you! I havn't been here in many years and have been dying to shoot the main spiral interior. It's an awesome looking place and the works of art is pretty good too - hahaha.
@magdalenabas@aspada@skipt07 - Thank you very much. It is such a fascinating place and I couldn't wait to takes my shots there. I'll post another in a little bit.
Love this POV! Yes . . he was a man ahead of his time, I think. A man from our Midwest area. Are you allowed to take photos in there?!! Lucky you . . another playground.
@karenann -- thx Karenann. Yes you can take photos but only from the ground floor. Walking up the spirals are lined with works of art so you can't shoot from there. I snuck a bunch of shots downward and across and got yelled at lot so couldnt take time to focus those and gave up or I was getting thrown out. :-)
@ptowncook - Thx so much Laura and she is, but for a while we had some clashes as I would bud into her photography too much and have since learned to let her do her thing.
@numinee - its a great place very different than most museums and its across the street from Central Park and a few blocks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
I always loved that view! I've also toured one of the houses he designed near Pittsburgh. It's as stunning and unique as the Guggenheim in its own way. Great shot.
Love the Guggenheim! I think it's easier to start at the top and walk down the swirls! I have been many times and it beats walking up the swirls! Nice shot and hope you had great time with the wifey and the art! :-)
@lorihiro - now why didn't I think of that? Makes sense take elevator to top and walk down swirls. I guess I was so amped up to take pics I wasnt thinking. Haha. Yes we had great time and then went around the block for lunch at a French wine/cheese place on Madison Ave.
