Yes this is still Michael Elliott. Don't be confused by this pic. But it was in the 90s F and very humid today so I hit the beach.
I am having trouble finding the appropriate words to express my thanks to everyone for the amazing way you all helped me to celebrate reaching 365 the other day. It was really incredibly overwhelming and unexpected. I am very moved by all the wonderful comments that you posted on my slide show (and thx for all the favs to put it at #2 in the Top 20!) and also by the remarks and posting of my pics on the ME discussion thread. You are all such wonderful and talented people and I'm so appreciative that we shared the journey because you all made it so enjoyable. So a big heart-felt thank you and now on to year two :-)
Hey does anyone know how this works? I mean I retired album 1 at 365 and am now using album 3 as the main default for year 2. But I have like 20 pics in here from first year. Do I leave as is or move those pics to empty days in album 2 which is for extras?
You're just a terrific fella, Michael! LOL! Wonderful sparse beach scene! It's amazing that this time of year, it's so bare. Has everyone from New York invaded Myrtle Beach, SC? Ha ha! Probably! It's a parking lot on the highways into town!
A very different NY shot for you! But I know that this is not impossible- especially if the weather is going to change, people clear off the beach rather quickly. I really like it- and I thought of Beachradish at first glance as well! As far as the numbering goes- I think you have to move them because they will continue to be counted here if you leave them in. The only thing is I think if you move them, you will lose the comments on them. I don't think the comments follow them to the new location. I just rolled over my main album. I'm going from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 so it's not hard to figure out how far along the project is. Great shot Michael!
Hi Michael! You're back already... yay! Fav'ing straight away as I love this. I instantly thought of @beachradish but you put your own accent on it by the slightly darker tones, the pleasing horizontal thirds, and composing this with the pole on the right which balances out the two people. Usually Nicole leaves us hanging with pure negative space which I also adore. Along with the B&W beach hut from months ago I would hang this on my wall :)
@aspada - Yeah 3 or 4 days away was enough - I was getting ansy :) Thank you so much Amy - the "wall hang" is the highest compliement. I got down in the sand and faced a blasting from whipping winds for this. And the pole in the foreground was a key element for me in balancing comp and showing depth - thx for noticing :-)
@michaelelliott Goodness ... I think it means I shoot too many beach shots! The tones feel familiar, but this is so uniquely MIcheal with that crystal clear quality and brilliant use of space. I'm partial to and love this for all those reasons! If I could Fav it twice, I would :)
@beachradish - Thank you so much, but I think its great that your wonderful photography has left a beautiful mark on us :) Hmmm I may even try one of those unique hang on the edge negative space shots :))
Congratulations on the 365 - I love that you have begun this round with something so different - but talent is talkent and it is still as evocative as your buildings. I love the colours!
Fabulous compositio n, they look as if they are wondering off into the heat haze of the desert! Great to see you back already, looking forward to ME year 2 .
@judithdeacon - Thx Judith. I've always been drawn to the dessert look and the beaches here have miles of sand like a dessert before you get to the water.
@ptowncook@hjbenson@nadaa@marlboromaam@cromwell - Thx very much. During the day I'm sure there were tens of thousands of people. But I like to go late in the day towards early evening when most peeps are gone or leaving. Plus here the sky got dark and fierce hot winds were gusting so I was hoping for sparseness and got it!
This is such a departure from your beautiful city shots! Fav! It's a perfect, minimal, balanced composition using the white post and the couple as the offset. It's hard to imagine that this wasn't shot out in a desert somewhere. That must have been incredible wind for NYC beaches.
Glad to see you posting again, Michael! Love this photo! The colors are so soft and muted. You can almost see the heat and humidity rising up from the sand. We went to a beach on the Cape on Sunday to escape the heat, too, but like you, a sudden wind came up and was blowing our beach umbrellas around so hard, we had to hold them down.
@sparkleplenty1 - thx Joyce. Even though I need time for projects I still want to shoot as much as possible. Yeah that wind was strange - constant and hot. I love the photo ops at the beach. Thx again.
@geocacheking - thx Mr T. I was tempted to play up the apocalyptic angle by inserted the Statue of Liberty on the horizon buried up to her chest a la Planet of the Apes :)
i missed this yesterday, was having some computer issues, but wow, what a soft, lovely shot. hope you had a relaxing day at the water as this simple, understated photo implies. stunning comeback. so glad to see you.
@annbo@catsmeowb - Ann and Camille thank you both very much for the Favs :) This was a fun shot and laying on the sand with the hot wind blowing was a bit of a different shooting experience. Still finding sand in my stuff :)
everything in the whole wide world has already been said here - glad to know that it was beachradish-inspired @beachradish and that it's possible to do that and still retain your own mark here! What a wonderful eye you have, Michael. . .I look forward to more inspiration from your second year. welcome back . . .and fav. . .
@lyno - Thank you so kindly Lyn. While I do need time for my other projects, I am certainly still shooting and could not stay away from this wonderful commuinity for too long - as I get so much inspiration and ideas from you all :)
I love it! It is different from your normal city shots, but just as amazing! I like the way that you captured the wind in her blowing hair and blurred sand. What a great way to start year 2.
I assume you already moved your pics since this is #1. Beautiful pic, and definitely unexpected from you which is a good thing. I love the photo you are using as your profile pic. Looking forward to seeing what you do for year 2!
a lovely "not-michael" shot! I have really enjoyed year 2 doing some "different" things, try out new edits etc. It's funny, my year 2 book is going to have a completely different look and feel to year one, I wonder whether yours will too....look forward to keeping up with you!
@sparkle - thx very much Juliette. Having completed 365 and pretty much sticking with my goals on it, I do feel liberated now to free-wheel and try different things and I've noticed you have too :)
@beachradish -- Wow thx very much. See your influence has great effect. Wow #2 and #4 this week and I thought I was going to keep a low profile in Yr 2 ;-)
Congratulations !! too bad I missed all the fun here in 365..Anyways,sending you my love and positive energy----- just so you know,i always admire your superb creativity---outstanding talent and of course, your angelic friendship.. Bravo, Michael !!-perhaps,i will see you here again—if time permits— Good luck and keep shooting :)
Wow! Where the hell have I been! This is an amazing capture, Michael! I like seeing something different from you! Glad to see you back! Congrats on the #2 spot!
@jodimuli - Joey D! How the hell are you? Man its been a long time. Thx for checking in and for the encouraging and wonderful words. Be well my friend :)
I did not realize you were posting more photos right away. I have been so far behind and saw your comment on Bobby's post and had to see what you have been up to. Now that I am at the bottom of this long list of followers and your comments, I have to remember what you posted. Oh, yes, it is at the beach and a hot day. Where are all the people. Not typical of a hot day here as the beach would be packed. Nice shot though. Nice to have you still here, Michael.
