July7 Giant Sun Spots! by mikegifford

July7 Giant Sun Spots!

There are extremely large sun spots visible with the right filters. The largest spot is 11 times larger than the Earth. This was taken today with a 300mm Nikkor with a IDAS UHB-RS Solar Filter ( http://www.sciencecenter.net/hutech/idas/solar/index.htm).

Here is an article on the extremely large sun spots appearing NOW on the sun:

Wow! Thanks for the info, but I don't think the filter would help me with my moonshot abilities :D

@deburahiru Not sure you could see the moon through the filter...it is very dark/black. I may try it just to see....

@mikegifford thanks for sharing it here with us, that's not a pic people get to see everyday, would be cool to have one of those filters.
