Who Am I? by milaniet

Who Am I?

First one I've seen like this - and can't find him in my insect book. Found him on one site but they identified him as "little black butterfly". Yes, I know that! But then, as furry as he was, is he a moth of some sort?
Milanie, I can tell by the antenna that it's a moth. I'll see if I can find it in my books. :0)

I;ll give a look in my books and see what I can find out.

I think I found it, Milanie. It's a Grapevine Epimenis Moth. I've never seen one, but I found out we have them in Tennessee, too. Gorgeous capture!!! :0)

@cjwhite Thank you, Carolyn. That is definitely him. Now you have a new one to look for. Was just one of those lucky "walk along and there he was" finds.

Very well spotted and caught. Before seeing an atlas moth I'd never associated moths with rich colourings but it still comes as a surprise to see a species as darkly coloured as this one. 365 is a great place for learning. Thank you.

What a beautiful find...bright bold colours seem unusual for a moth!
