This Rufous Sided Towhee is definitely a new bird for me. Wish I hadn't been zoomed in so close but sure didn't get a second chance at a shot. Was proud to catch this one.
It's a great pov, well spotted and caught.
Wow, Milanie, have you counted up the number of different makes of bird you've observed? It's a real education following you, thank you.
@dulciknit I couldn't have answered that two days ago, but Bill asked me to put my birds from this year in one folder and did that yesterday - there were 53 different kinds of birds that I've shot this year - I was amazed!
The powers that be in the bird world did change this bird's name to Eastern Towhee. It's a great bird. The new Stokes Field Guide to Birds (2013) is the best photographic reference book that I know of, with lots of photos of each bird, if you are looking for a very recent field guide. The new Sibley is good also, but it has drawings.
It's wonderful that you had camera in hand when this rare visitor dropped in! I can well imagine your happiness in both seeing this bird and getting his picture.
Thanks for the comment shared on the black cat pic. Yup, those eyes made the choice easy for the day.

I don't think we have the Rufous Sided Towhee in Idaho ......
