One Strange Looking Whatever by milaniet

One Strange Looking Whatever

Have no real idea on what this is - was growing quite close to the ground like a mushroom does - but all I could think of was a hatching egg (or golf ball). Can anyone shed any light?
Intriquing

It's a Puffball Milaine, it's a type of fungi ( mushroom), they start like golf balls, but as they mature they dry and split and release millions of spores. If you squeeze or stand on one they are released in one big puff.
Some are edible, ( not all are), grow as large as 24 inches wide and can be delicious. Sliced into steaks, and fried in butter. Mmm

Great shot. Totally looks like a blown out ball of some sort. Thankfully @markp cleared it up! We don’t have these here either, that I’m aware of. Knowing what it is makes it even cooler.
