so this is the sewing machine that we enherited from my hubby's granny. we've had it for 12 years. and last week i finally learned how to use it. a couple friends from church came over and showed me how to get it cleaned up and oiled and make some simple stitches. i have been experimenting with it ever since. you can see some of my goofing off stitches to the right. i had fun trying to make a heart shape with different colors and stitches. i have already made a few repairs to hubby man's clothes. some were very frustrating but, hey, i am still learning. today i cleaned out all the drawers of the sewing desk and got it all organized. i liked all the colors of thread that Granny had and wondered what she had used all those colors for. there's a neat rocking chair pin cushion in the background. the tomato/strawberry pin cushions nearly got chopped out of the pic. i never knew what the strawberry was for. according to wikipedia... 'Typically, the tomato is filled with wool roving to prevent rust, and the strawberry is filled with an abrasive to clean the pins.' learning something new everyday. hahah. so all this stuff was Granny's except the little pincushion in the front. it looks like a black circle in the pic with a yellow ribbon. the white elastic strap is so you can slip it on your finger. it's very convenient and i have used it for a few years whenever i have a sewing repair project or even just sewing on buttons. i got it at our church's craft bazaar. it is made from a bottle cap. :) and last but not least, if you look really close, you can see the eye of the needle, so i am tagging it for the eyes theme. LOL sooo this is probably wayyyyy more detail than anybody will read. so, if you made it this far.... thanks for reading :-D
i am pleased at how the picture came out. i had a great day. i talked to my daughter again tonite and she wants to visit me tomorrrow. i haven't seen her since march so i am really excited.
