The Bush is Alive & Well! by miraries

The Bush is Alive & Well!

With the torrential rain last week, the creeks and the rivers burst their banks & roads were closed. We tried to make it to Jingellic & stay in the hotel grounds but the area had been washed out & the hotel/pub was closed till further notice. We ended up in Burrowye for the night.

The valleys were flooded like here in Burrowye but there was no internet, cell-phone or TV signal. Felt so isolated yet so peaceful with only the sound of currajong birds to break the silence.

The Murray River is actually farther off and what you see here is the flooding of the bush and the gum trees standing in flowing water where it was dry ground before.. It was a great fishing opportunity but we only caught 7 big European carp which Aussies don't want to eat & not allowed to release back into the water as it is a pest in the Murray River waters.

At sunset, the light reflected in the mountain tops bounced off into the water & created a delightful scene. The drought has definitely broken but how long it will take for the flood to recede - nobody knows. On the news tonight, the waters will still peak in towns farther down the track in the Murrumbidgee River of New South Wales. But I don't think anyone is really complaining, It's been decades since the rivers & creeks have been so blessed.
What a beautiful scene Miriam. I'll have to find out exactly where Burrowye is. Things must be really bad in Jingellic if the pub has closed!

@cmt2812 yes, it was closed Tuesday when we got there - in fact deserted. They said it was for the public safety. burrowye is about 37 kms from Jingellic in Victoria. Thanks for your comments.
