Melbourne's Flinder's Street Station

Took the train from Lilydale to Flinders St. Station today and had a lovely time in the city while hubby attended his course. To top it all, there was no rain & we had a beautiful nearly summer day of 28C. I walked my feet off rediscovering my city and I just realied why Melbourne has been voted a few times as one of the world's most livable cities. I will most likely be taking you to photographic tour of the city in the next few weeks as we will be "training" it there for a few weeks.

Flinders Street Station is the central railway station of the suburban rail network Each weekday, over 110,000 commuters and 1,500 trains pass through the station.

Flinders Street Station is a cultural icon to Melbourne, frequently used in imagery representing the city. The Melburnian idiom "I'll meet you under the clocks refer to the the row of clocks above the main entrance, which indicate the departure time of the next train on each line; another being "I'll meet you on the steps", referring to the wide staircase leading into the main entrance of Flinders.

Both are a popular meeting places as it is at the intersection of two of the city's busiest thoroughfares. The station is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register - the first of its buildings was completed in 1854.

Have always loved this building. Shame they put that skyscraper behind it, aarrggh! Love Melbourne and its cupolas and this is a beauty. Great shot.

Wonderful old Victorian landmark - it's the place where we say, "I'll meet you on the steps at Flinders St Station". Nice shot and what a lovely day
