yellow columbine

My daughter and I went on an epic hike up into the alpine of Kananaskis Country today and the wildflowers were superb....it was tough to pick one photo, but columbines are among my favourite flowers, and they certainly were out in all their glory. Why an epic, you ask......well, 32 km and just over 3,000' elevation gain is too much in one day! It was a loop hike so once we committed there was no turning back.
Beautiful...great focus and color. Those are the best hikes...the ones you aren't sure you are going to get through but they end up being completely worth it!

@tinatmmc Thanks Tina. Last night when I extracted myself from my car after 1 hour drive home, I would have been questioning that statement but with 24 hours elapsed and the body not complaining any more than usual, I totally agree!

@pamfromcalgary We started at the Ribbon Creek parking lot, headed up to Ribbon Lake, over Guinn Pass into Galatea Creek then down to the Kananaskis River, returning to Ribbon Creek via the Terrace Trail.......Ribbon Falls about 10 km up the trail is itself a very worthy destination and Guinn Pass was awesome.....great views. Twenty-twenty hindsight, take two cars and skip the Terrace Trail (have another car at the Galatea parking lot) for a much more reasonable day!
