Can apples grow on a bush?

This shrub is no more than 3 feet high, but the fruit sure looks like a small apple!

@craftymeg - you may be right, Margaret. I wondered about quince......maybe a Japanese Quince/Bush Apple. I’ve searched more and this the closest I’ve been able to find.
